The concept behind eLAIX

eLAIX is an attempt to offer teachers and learners a software solution, which enables them to create ILIAS 3 content as well as printed documents and websites with minimal effort. Assuming that most authors already own existing digital material, it was taken into consideration that Word documents, charts and other digital graphics can be implemented also by less experienced users. As it would be convenient for most authors to compose content in a current word processor, the free available Office-suite OpenOffice.org was choosen. OpenOffice.org-Writer can read and write Microsoft Word files and comes with many inbuild export-filters such as HTML, DocBook and PDF. Furthermore OpenOffice.org uses the forward-looking XML-based file format ODT that is probably going to be a worldwide standard.

As a consequence an author generates websites, lecture notes and learning units just from one single document. He/she has the option to use a once created document for multiple purposes. The graphic below shows the technical framework of this idea.
